Magnetic Particle Inspection
Magnetic particle inspection (MPI) is a non destructive test (NDT) method used to check for surface and near-surface discontinuities in ferrous materials. Our magnetic particle testing course helps you to perform on-site or in any other laboratories.
Because this method relies on a magnetic field to produce results, it works best on ferrous materials, like nickel, iron, cobalt, and some alloys. Components like billets, bars, castings, forgings, fasteners, weldments and extrusions are also commonly tested using magnetic particle inspection.
Magnetic Particle Inspection Methods
Depending on the application, magnetic particle examination can be done either wet or dry. The product is electrically charged to induce the magnetic field in both techniques and then a dry or wet suspension, ferrous iron particles are added to the component to identify the flaws.
If there is a crack or other fault, the particles will be drawn to the flaw and form an “indication” surrounding the magnetic field leakage.
